The eighth grade boy's flag football team suffered it's first loss of the season last week to Monroe-Clark Middle School in probably their toughest game of the year. So when O'Farrell was paired up in a rematch against Monroe-Clark in the first round of the playoffs yesterday, the Falcons were excited about their chance at redemption. "These young men played hard, physical, clean football and dominated much of the game, and they did it with class. That makes them winners in my book regardless of what the scoreboard says." -Brian Schmidt -O'Farrell Sports Director.
The Playoffs continue next week for the eighth grade team as it is a double elimination format. The Falcons opponent next week is still to be determined.
The seventh grade team will face Gompers Middle School this Friday, Dec 7th at home at 3:30 if the rain doesn't wash them out. The Falcons beat Gompers earlier in the year and are feeling confident heading into Friday's game.
Girl's basketball remains undefeated and will begin their playoff run next week with the schedule to be announced shortly.

Sports Return To O'Farrell In Style

All Teams Are Undefeated Heading Into Thanksgiving Break
It's been quite a few years since O'Farrell has had an inter-school athletic league. O'Farrell, along with five other middle schools and in conjunction with the Jackie Robinson YMCA are currently competing in a boy's flag football and girl's basketball league. Other middle school's competing in this league include Gompers, Horace Mann, Monroe Clark, Memorial, and Bell middle schools. Some middle school's have been competing in various leagues for years, but for O'Farrell it's been nearly ten years since being a part of such a program.
Although O'Farrell's new sports program is in it's early stages of development, our teams have started off with a bang. The girl's basketball team is off to a 5-0 start and has been dominating the competition by scores of 66-2,68-4,77-7, 81-4 and 68-3. They are clearly the league favorite at the moment.
Both the 7th grade and 8th grade boy's teams have started out 2-0 with victories over Gompers and Horace Mann Middle Schools. Horace Mann was 5-0 and in first place until our Falcons were able to win both our games on their field on Wednesday the 14th of Nov.
More importantly than winning or losing our students have demonstrated first class sportsmanship, teamwork, and a never give up attitude. The emphasis of this sports program is to teach our children hard work, sportsmanship, teamwork, accountability, commitment, and to give them a glimpse of what it means to be a student athlete. All participants must maintain a 2.0 GPA and maintain good citizenship in order to participate.
"Hopefully we can help build this program into a positive productive after-school activity that will benefit our students and the community for many years to come." -Brian Schmidt (Physical Education Department Chair and Sports Program Director).
