Seventh Grade Falcons Advance To Championship Game With Last Second Victory Over Gompers

Seventh Grade Football Advances To Championship

The seventh grade boy's flag football team advanced to the championship game with a last-second, come-from-behind, victory over Gompers Middle School on Tuesday, Dec 11th. With four seconds remaining and trailing by 7 points(13-6), O'Farrell had the ball on Gompers 10 yard line when Fatu Leao completed a touchdown pass to Sean Plousha to bring the Falcons within one point. With no time on the clock and daylight running out, O'Farrell elected to go for the two-point conversion and the win instead of a one-point conversion and the tie. Again, Leao was the hero and ran around the right end and squeaked into the end-zone with no time left on the clock to win the game 14-13 and propel O'Farrell to the championship game on Thursday Dec. 13th. at Monroe-Clark Middle School. Both teams are undefeated and have one tie which happened when they played each other two-weeks ago.

The eighth grade boy's flag football team completed their season yesterday with a 12-6 victory over Memorial Academy, raising their record to 4-2. The team's only two losses were to the league champion Monroe-Clark by the scores of 6-0 both meetings. The Falcons ended their first season in third place with the highlight being a victory over Horace Mann Middle school which hadn't lost a game in five years.

Girl's basketball remains undefeated at 7-0 and continues to win in dominant fashion. The lady Falcons played a double header on Wednesday the 12th and won by the scores of 84-13 and 103-5. Their playoff and championship run will continue Friday night (Dec. 14th) at the Jackie Robinson YMCA.

"Regardless of wins and losses, these young men and women are getting a chance to see what it means to be student-athletes. They understand that academics come first and have been competing with class. They have all represented O'Farrell and this community well." — Brian Schmidt — O'Farrell Sports Director
