Online Bridging Algebra and Geometry Review Summer 2008

Course Description:
This course is designed to prepare students for college preparatory mathematics. It is not intended to replace the 2 semester course for Algebra but to give a greater foundation in Algebra for those taking Advanced Geometry and for students taking Algebra 1 in the 2008-09 school year.

To enroll merely email the following information to msmoyd@gmail.com on or before June 23rd:

•  Full Name (this includes first and last)
•  Homebase
•  Parent/guardian name and email
•  Your math goal for the summer (1 paragraph)

You will then be given a password and access to the webpage, assignments, coursework, and tests. The class will start June 23rd and ends on August 28th.

Materials Required:
•  Internet access
•  Composition book for note taking
(Notes to be turned in on or before September 12, 2008)

Recommended but not required:
Math Tutor Book titled: Painless Algebra (Painless Series) (Paperback) by Lynette Long Ph.D.
Book titled: Geometry for Dummies by Wendy Arnone Ph.d

Geometry Review (for 7th grade Algebra students entering into Geometry)

Topics Covered:
Introduction to Algebra Integers, Rational Numbers, Equations, Inequalities, Exponents, Polynomials, Factoring, Graphs, Linear Equations, Systems of Equations, Inequalities and Absolute Value, Rational Expressions, Radical Expressions and Equations, Relations and Functions, Quadratic Equations.

Grading Policy:
This class is un-graded and is independent study. Instructor and student will communicate by email to check weekly progress. Students are expected to work on assignments and take online tests when assigned. Students completing the course will be given the opportunity to take a pre-assessment to determine possible placement for math the first week of school.
